Iowa State Cyclones at No. 9 Oklahoma Sooners

November 26, 2011

A national championship is out of the question for Oklahoma, the preseason odds on favorite to win it all, but a Big 12 title and BCS bowl are still very much alive as long as the Sooners don’t get upset by Iowa State, which knows a thing or two about  upsetting teams from Oklahoma. OU is a 28.5-point college football bets favorite on

Oklahoma was upset last week, 45-38 at Baylor. It was the first time OU had ever lost to Baylor (21-0 prior to last week). Coach Bob Stoops’ team currently sits third in the league standings, just behind 6-2 Kansas State and 7-1 Oklahoma State. The Sooners and Cowboys renew their rivalry next week in Stillwater in the Bedlam game.

Iowa State claimed its biggest win ever last Friday night, as the Cyclones upset then No. 2 Oklahoma State in a 37-31 double-overtime thriller in front of an elated home crowd. The improbable victory moved ISU to 6-4 on the year, making the squad bowl eligible for the second time in coach Paul Rhoads’ three seasons at the helm. Iowa State, which has won three in a row on the heels of a four-game losing streak, came into last week’s game 0-56-2 against teams ranked sixth or higher in the AP poll.

Oklahoma hopes to remain in position to claim the league title if it can continue its dominance over Iowa State, which has not beaten the Sooners since 1990. Oklahoma has outscored Iowa State 135-12 in three home games under Stoops (52-0 last year). The Sooners, however, could face a stiffer challenge Saturday against a confident Cyclones squad that has won three straight with freshman quarterback Jared Barnett at the helm.

Barnett, who went 31 of 58 for 376 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions versus Oklahoma State, faces a Sooners defense that has allowed at least 379 passing yards in three of the last four games. The Sooners allowed a school-record 616 yards, 479 passing, at Baylor.

SA Take: This should be a heavy duty smack down on the part of Oklahoma and we expect them to win and cover the spread.
