NCAA Football Free Pick: No. 5 Oklahoma Sooners at No. 25 Baylor Bears

November 19, 2011

Oklahoma must beat Baylor on Saturday night to keep its Big 12 and national title hopes alive, but the Bears, who have never beaten Oklahoma, are very dangerous with Heisman candidate Robert Griffin III. OU is a 15.5-point college football bets favorite on WagerWeb.com.

OU still has a shot at the Big 12 crown and is on a collision course with Oklahoma State. The two meet in the regular-season finale and with the Cowboys up by a game in the standings. If the Cowboys continue to win, Oklahoma will need to do the same to set up a showdown with Big 12 implications. Last week, the Sooners knocked off Texas A&M, 41-25.

Unfortunately for the Sooners, they’ll be playing the home stretch of their schedule without the NCAA’s career receptions leader. Senior wide receiver Ryan Broyles caught 349 passes — 45 for scores — in a four-year stint in Norman that came to a sudden end two weeks ago when he tore his left ACL during the win over Texas A&M.

Sportsbook Advisor Note: With Oklahoma State losing Friday night next weeks matchup against them is less of a threat for Oklahoma. Sports are a psychological game as well as physical. The pressure valve has been rleeased a bit and Oklahoma will concentrate on Baylor. The spread is Oklahoma -15. We say they win and cover.

Baylor has won all five of its games at home, where it’s averaging 49.0 points. Last week at Kansas, the Bears rallied from 21 points down in the fourth quarter to win 31-30 in overtime. It was the biggest fourth-quarter rally in school history.

Baylor boasts the top-ranked offense in the Big 12, averaging 40.3 points and 567.9 total yards per game. Griffin leads the conference with a 74.2 completion percentage and a 188.6 passer rating, compiled with the help of 29 touchdown passes with only five interceptions. Also a threat on the ground, Griffin has gained 478 yards rushing with five more scores, averaging 4.1 yards per carry. Baylor RB Terrance Ganaway has 889 yards rushing, close to becoming only Baylor’s eighth 1,000-yard rusher. He also has 10 TDs. Ganaway has had at least 120 yards in three games this season.

Oklahoma has dominated this series from the start and has won all 20 previous matchups with Baylor. The Sooners are the only Big 12 team that the Bears have not posted a win against.

SA Note: Oklahoma won’t be looking past Baylor now that Oklahoma State lost a game. Expect Oklahoma to give a dominating performance and probably cover this 15.5 point spread.
