The 2016 college football regular season begins on Thursday with an SEC showdown between the South Carolina Gamecocks and the Vanderbilt Commodores. The current line has Vanderbilt favored by 4.5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 42.5.
Both these SEC East division schools did not have successful seasons last year. South Carolina ended their season 3-9, while Vanderbilt was 4-8. This game begins Will Muschamp era as head coach for South Carolina as he took over for the departed Steve Spurrier.
South Carolina is 21-4 against Vanderbilt in their 25 games head to head including wins in the past seven meetings. Last season, South Carolina won 19-10 over the Commodores. However, South Carolina’s season ended poorly with five losses in its final six games.
Perry Orth played the most at quarterback last season and is expected to again this season. He threw for 1,929 yards and 12 touchdowns last season with 9 interceptions. David Williams should lead the rushing game while the receiving corps is led by Deebo Samuel. › Continue reading
The NFC West has been a two-team race the past few seasons and that is expected to stay the same in 2016 with the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks battling it out for the division title.
Seattle Seahawks Odds
Win total – 10.5 – Over (-140), Under (+110)
NFC West title – 10 to 11
NFC title – 9 to 2
Super Bowl champions – 9 to 1
Seattle made only a few changes to its coaching staff under head coach Pete Carroll during the offseason. Kris Richard remains as defensive coordinator while Darrell Bevell is the offensive coordinator despite rumors of him being a potential head coach for some NFL team.
A key area for the Seahawks this season will be their offensive line. Seattle lost J.R. Sweezy and Russell Okung to free agency and that could hurt the team’s rushing attack. › Continue reading

Baltimore returns home after a weekend series with the New York Yankees, while Toronto opens a road trip after hosting the Minnesota Twins over the weekend. Toronto is currently in first place in the AL East, while the Orioles are 3 games back in third place.
Baltimore has fallen somewhat off the pace in the battle to win the AL East, but can make that up quickly as they open a three-game series with the division leading Blue Jays. The Orioles won the final game of a three-game series with the Yankees to avoid being swept on Sunday. › Continue reading
The NFC West has been a very strong division with three of the four last NFC Super Bowl participants coming from the division.
A wildcard from the division has reached the postseason the past four consecutive seasons and the division over that same four-year period has seen its teams win 12 playoff games.
It is therefore no surprise that the Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks are high on the list of favorites for Super Bowl LI.
Arizona Cardinals Odds
Win total – 9.5 – Over (-165), Under (+135)
NFC West title – 7 to 5
NFC title – 6 to 1
Super Bowl champions – 12 to 1
James Bettcher remains the defensive coordinator under head coach Bruce Arians, while both Harold Goodwin and Tom Moore will run the offense again this season. Most of the coaching staff returned this season after the Cardinals last season reached the NFC Championship. › Continue reading
This will be the second season for former Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston under center for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with higher expectations this year than last.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Odds

Week 3 of the NFL preseason comes to an end in the Lone Star State on Sunday when the Houston Texans host the Arizona Cardinals in a late afternoon showdown. The current line has the game as a Pick’em with the over/under point total sitting on 41.
It is difficult putting much weight on the records teams have in the preseason, as there are much more things coaches look at than the final score. Nevertheless, Houston is 2-0 thus far, this preseason against good opponents and Arizona is 0-2 in its first two against lesser quality opponents.
Last season, Arizona was 13-3, and averaged the second most points in the NFL at 30.6 per game. Thus far, the veteran team through two games has not reached the end zone. This game could have more meaning for the Cardinals and their first team offense.
Houston last season backed into their division title in the weak AFC South, but struggled often on offense. The team is showing some life under new quarterback Brock Osweiler but time will tell if that success can translate to wins during the regular season. › Continue reading
Week 3 of the 2016 NFL preseason continues on Saturday from Mile High City when the Denver Broncos host the Los Angeles Rams. The current line has Denver favored by 4.5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 42.
The Rams have won both their preseason games heading into this game, while the Broncos are 1-1 in their first two preseason games. The Broncos opened preseason with a victory over Chicago 22-0 but then lost to the San Francisco 49ers a week ago.
The first two preseason games for the Rams were at home with strong wins over the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. Preseason records do not mean that much, but a good indication of where both teams stand will come from this game. Most teams play their starters the longest this week.
Jared Goff the No. 1 overall pick in the draft played well at quarterback last week for the Rams completing 8 of his 12 passes and one touchdown. Case Keenum also played well under center but did not see as much action. › Continue reading
The NFC South should be dominated by the Carolina Panthers but the New Orleans Saints could surprise fans this season.
New Orleans Odds
Win total – 7 – Over (-105), Under (-125)
NFC South title – 6 to 1
NFC title – 33 to 1
Super Bowl champions – 66 to 1
Former interim coach of the Miami Dolphins Dan Campbell is now an assistant with the Saints and will focus on the tight ends. Detroit fired Joe Lombardi during the season last year as its offensive coordinator. The Saints hired him as their quarterback’s coach, where he had coached for four seasons before moving to Detroit.
Dennis Allen the former head coach of the Oakland Raiders returns to New Orleans as its defensive coordinator, after coming aboard during last season after the Saints fired Rob Ryan. › Continue reading
The 2016 college football regular season opens down under at ANZ Stadium in Sydney, Australia when the California Golden Bears play the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors. The current line has California favored by 19.5 points with the over/under point total sitting on 64.
California moves on from its Jared Goff era on Friday when it kicks off the regular season in college football against Hawaii. Goff is now with the NFL’s St. Louis Rams. The Golden Bears now have Davis Webb, a 6-foot-5 Texas Tech graduate transfer as their starting quarterback.
Cal has great experience on its offensive line as well as in the backfield, but must replace its six top receivers that played last season. The Golden Bears started strong last season winning five straight to open the season, but ended their season 8-5.
Davis and the Cal up-tempo offense should put plenty of points up on the board for the fans in Sydney. However, if Cal wants to contend this season for the Pac-12 title its defense will need to improve. In this game, the defense should not be tested, but tough conference games lie ahead. › Continue reading
Carolina is expected to runaway with the NFC South title again this season. The other three teams are expected to battle out for a distant second, third and fourth.
Atlanta Falcons odds
Win total – 7.5 – Over (+105), Under (-135)
NFC South title – 5 to 1
NFC title – 28 to 1
Super Bowl champions – 50 to 1
Atlanta ended last season under new head coach Dan Quinn at 8-8. There were only a few changes to the coaching staff following the season with Raheem Morris moving to offense as Quinn’s assistant and the wide receivers coach. Jerome Henderson was named the defensive passing game coordinator for the Falcons. › Continue reading
